Speed Date review: Social Media and Collaborative Communication Tools

Julie Swanson from the Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Services offered coalitions an opportunity to "speed date" social media and collaborative communication tools during our Tuesday, Dec. 21st Coalition Teleconference.

Social Media Tools

Collaborative Communication Tools

  • RSVP Tools provide easy, fast way to set up meetings (ex. http://www.meetingwizard.com/)
  • Survey use to collect data in real time (ex. www.surveymonkey.com)
  • Collaborative calendars, documents, wikis, and video chat make planning and editing collaborative and communication easier (ex. Google)
What social media and collaborative communication tools do your coalitions use? Please share examples of blogs, wikis, websites, etc. Click on Comment below to respond.

  1. Julie pointed out that the Wiki's she spoke of are created with Google Sites- Google Sites can also be used to make a more standard-looking website for free. Here is the one that we use in Platteville:
    www.swsaferoutes.org
(it is a work in progress- needs some more pictures :))

It is a free service and you can purchase a domain name (web address) separately for approximately $15/year (for example we masked our google sites address (https://sites.google.com/site/swsaferoutes/) with the domain name www.swsaferoutes.org). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions- I would love to assist! -Amy @ seebotha@uwplatt.edu (City of Platteville project)

  2. Thanks, Karen and Amy! It is great to see so many (free or inexpensive) resources being used. We will use the info you share here to compile a list of current sites being used to support your community efforts.

The Wood County blog Julie shared today can be found at http://woodcppw.blogspot.com/

Keep up the great work, everyone!

  3. Polk County uses Google Sites for NPA, our nutrition and physical activity coalition. View at www.polkNPAcoalition.org

You'll see from our website that we also use other Google aps like...
    - Google Calendar to post our meetings, events, trainings
    - Google Groups to run the list-serves we set-up for each committee to keep the committee comunicating between meetings
    - Google Docs is used right now only for our Executive Committee so we are all using the most up to date letterhead, coalition brochure, and other coalition materials. We hope to use this in other committees but need to convince people to start a Google account. It has been a slow learning curve for some people. (:
